Charlotte de Vries
Director
Charlotte commenced her career in financial services in 2015 after previous roles in supporting growing businesses in event management and hospitality.
Over the next 8 years Charlotte helped manage the growth of a Private Client Wealth Management business from one adviser to ten, which saw assets under management increase to over £600m.
Charlotte is an alumni of the Royal Agricultural University and a member of the Personal Finance Society. In Charge of Operations, Charlotte ensures that EXE Capital Management has the required operational structure and support to meet the needs of our clients.
Bertie Scott-Hopkins
Director
As a Chartered Financial Planner, Bertie offers the highest level of financial advice to his clients. Bertie provides bespoke financial planning and investment management for every phase of a client’s life. This includes; the construction of investment portfolios for accumulation and growth, implementation of appropriate tax efficient strategies for retirement or other significant life events and planning to manage and mitigate the impacts of Inheritance Tax Planning and Long-Term Care on a client’s accrued family legacy.
Bertie has worked within the financial services industry for over five years, most recently working with High-Net-Worth clients, personally advising on over £50 million of FUM. Before his career in financial services, Bertie worked in London for a Commercial Property firm, overseeing the commercial lease management for a portfolio of UK retail outlet centres. Prior to this, Bertie studied at the Royal Agricultural University and obtained a degree in Business Management.
Bertie is an Associate member of the Personal Finance Society (APFS) and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (MCSI).
James Griffin
Chairman
A lawyer of exceptional talent and skill, James’ ability to speak in an easy-to-understand manner is a trait which is appreciated by his many clients. James is a highly experienced Commercial Litigator acting for clients in UK court proceedings, Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
James enjoys the challenges of complex, multi-jurisdictional business transactions and uses his significant experience to help devise and implement the strategic objectives of his clients.
James’ expertise covers a variety of sectors with an emphasis on investment and property development, including hotels and student accommodation. James provides guidance on the key issues affecting the establishment of business entities in the UK and overseas, as well as non-resident individuals looking to invest in the UK.
In addition to these, James regularly advises clients on family business succession, farming and rural issues – an area particularly close to his heart as he owns a farm in Somerset.
George Hills
Director
After a short service commission with the 17th/21st Lancers, George entered the financial services industry in 1990 through Towry Law. Four years later George moved to J. Rothschild Assurance becoming a director in charge of business development for the South West of England.
George now brings his wealth of experience to EXE Capital Management, focusing on business development.
When spare time permits, George can be found tending to his Christmas tree farm in Cornwall.
James Scott-Hopkins
Founder
James started his career in financial services in 1983 with Hambro Life in Bristol. In 1987 he moved to London and joined Brown Shipley in the City and then to Johnson Fry in Mayfair, eventually acquiring their financial services division via a management buy-out.
In 1999 he founded Irongate which specialised in advising Private Clients.
James is an alumni of the Royal Agricultural College. He is also a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) and a member of both the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Personal Finance Society.
Andy Cameron
Client Relationship Director
Andy began his financial services career in 1981 with Hambro Life in Bristol where he met James Scott-Hopkins, Founder of EXE Capital Management.
In 1986 he set up his own brokerage before being invited to join J. Rothschild Assurance, building a successful Practice over the next 28 years. In 2020 Andy merged his business into James’s business, Irongate.
Andy continues to maintain contact with many of his clients alongside a focus in bringing new clients to EXE Capital Management. Andy lives on a hill farm just a few miles from the Exeter head office.
Will Palmer
Independent Compliance Consultant
Will studied law at university and has worked in financial services for over 20 years, more than half of which has been spent specialising in regulatory compliance. His career has included the roles of Head of Compliance and MLRO at several discretionary investment management firms, and spans financial institutions including Bank of America, investment bank Merrill Lynch and Legal and General.
A Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), Will has achieved a range of industry relevant qualifications including a diploma in investment compliance.
Outside of work, Will is kept all too busy by his wife and daughters. Where time allows, his pursuits include mountain biking, squash and gardening.
Vince Hawkes

As a Chartered Wealth Manager with over 30 years’ experience, Vince has earned the trust and respect of his clients through his attention to detail, clarity and high quality service. He constructs and manages portfolios for individuals, trusts, charities, and pension funds.
Vince joined Everys Financial Services in 2014 following a career with Rathbones and before that Citywall Financial Management that was acquired by Rathbones.
Vince is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments (CISI) and holds the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate through the CISI.
Nick Wills
Chartered Wealth Manager
Nick has over 20 years’ experience within the financial services industry having worked at Capel-Cure Myers and Redmayne Bentley before moving to Everys Financial Services.
He constructs and manages investment portfolios for individuals, trusts and charities. His unbiased advice is relied upon by his clients to develop a comprehensive investment and wealth management plan specific to their individual needs. Nick’s commitment to providing an excellent service has ensured that his relationships, built on trust and respect, continue to grow.

Emma Rees-Davies
Client Services Assistant
Emma has previous experience as an Executive Assistant through roles in estate management, event management and the education sector.
Emma provides support to our discretionary team and their clients, trusts and charities.
With a keen eye for detail, Emma will ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently, allowing the team to deliver top tier service and results.
Andrew Humphries
Chartered Independent Investment Consultant
After graduating with a degree in Economics, followed by 20 years in a variety of roles within Old Mutual, Prudential and GE Capital. Andrew joined St. James’s Place to head up their investment function. As a member of their Investment Committee his responsibility was to select, monitor and where necessary, to change managers. During his time the funds under management increased from £6 billion to £120 billion.
As Chair of the EXE Capital Management Investment Committee, Andrew’s role is to ensure we retain our investment principles and to challenge our investment approach.
Gavin Hayes
Independent Investment Consultant
Gavin Haynes is recognised as a leading authority on portfolio management, fund selection and asset allocation. Gavin spent 22 years at Whitechurch Securities, the last 10 of which as Managing Director. Over his tenure he was responsible for managing multi-asset portfolios for Independent Financial Advisers, winning a wide range of industry awards for service and performance of investment solutions.
Gavin has been a long-term commentator frequently quoted in the national and trade press regarding investment funds, markets, and industry trends.
In 2019 he co-founded Fairview Investing with Ben Yearsley to provide investment consultancy services to financial professionals.
Ben Yearsley
Independent Investment Consultant.
Ben has a wealth of experience in building portfolios through fund selection and asset allocation having spent over 15 years at Hargreaves Lansdown as an integral part of their investment research team. In 2012 Ben then helped launch Charles Stanley Direct as Head of Investment Research.
Ben is one of the industry’s leading commentators on funds and markets.
In 2019 he co-founded Fairview Investing with Gavin Haynes to provide investment consultancy services to financial professionals.
Diarmaid Kelly
Having left school Diarmaid joined the Stockjobber Pinchin Denny as a blue button later moving to Henderson Crosthwaite where he specialised in Japanese equities.
He was a founding Director of Baring Securities.
Whilst there he was in charge of the Japanese business and the whole of the principal risk positions the firm took in Japan and Europe. He became Deputy Chairman of the Securities business and sat on the Management Committee of Barings Investment Bank
More recently he is a Director and shareholder of the macro economic consultancy group CrossBorder Capital which studies Central Bank monetary policy in 75 countries and advises about 100 institutions on strategic asset allocation both geographically and in terms of asset class.
Ian Parker
Ian is has spent 25 years in leadership positions within the insurance industry, most recently as the group Chief Executive of Catalina Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd. His previous role was at Equity Red Star, the largest motor syndicate at Lloyd’s and as CEO led a major turnaround resulting in significant value creation for its investors and stakeholders. Other leadership roles have been held at Zurich, RBS, Hardy Underwriting and Direct Line Group.
He brings considerable experience in identifying options and solutions for business critical issues including M&A, disposals , market strategy, customer propositions and operational designs. His core skills are strategic development, transformation and creating and leading teams to deliver results for all stakeholders, customers, employees and shareholders.
Ian’s interest in investment management began on the floor of the London Stock Exchange, just before Big Bang in 1986 and later running his own account on the Johannesburg stock Exchange whilst living in South Africa.
